Sri Lankan New Year Festivals in Queensland – April 2026

The Sri Lankan community across Queensland will come together this April to celebrate the traditional Sinhala and Tamil New Year (Avurudu) through a series of vibrant cultural festivals.

Several community organisations are hosting events across the state, offering an opportunity for families and friends to experience Sri Lankan traditions, food, music, and games.

Events

📍 Brisbane – Lanka Lions New Year Festival

• Date: Saturday, 4 April 2026

• Time: From 10:30 AM onwards

• Venue: Robelle Domain Park, Springfield Central

This festival will feature cultural performances, traditional games, food stalls, and live entertainment.

📍 Brisbane – Sinhala Association of Queensland (Bakmaha Ulela 2026)

• Date: Saturday, 18 April 2026

• Time: From 8:30 AM onwards

• Venue: Wests Inala Football Club Ground, Richlands

A major annual celebration showcasing Sri Lankan heritage with competitions, cultural performances, and community activities.

📍 Gold Coast – Sri Lankan New Year Festival 2026

• Date: Sunday, 19 April 2026

• Time: From 8:00 AM onwards

• Venue: Pacific Pines Cricket Club, Helensvale

Hosted by the Gold Coast Sri Lankans’ Association, this event includes traditional food, games, and family-friendly entertainment.
